Nearly £100million has been lost to cyber criminals across Surrey and Hampshire over the last year.

The figure accounts for around two per cent of the UK’s total according to figures released by the National Fraud and Cyber Crime Network for the last 13 months.

Some 405,939 reports, totalling losses of £2.4billion, were recorded during the period with the most frequent victims of fraud falling in the 30 to 59 age range nationally.

The most common form of fraud in the region is consumer fraud according to the statistics.

Hampshire Police faced more cases than their Surrey counterparts with more than 10,700 incidents of fraud, totalling losses of more than £47.4million, compared to the latter’s 8,003.

Again, most victims in Surrey came from the 30 to 59 age range but most are over the age of 59 in Hampshire, with consumer fraud being the most common case reported.
