THERE were long tailbacks of queuing traffic in Haslemere just after noon last Saturday (December 29) when an oil spillage closed the road in both directions for three hours.
The A287 Hindhead Road in Shottermill was closed between Woolmer Hill Road and Nutcombe Lane from 12.30pm to 3.30pm and traffic was tailed back into Wey Hill.
Recovery crews were swiftly at the scene of the incident and were hoping to reopen the road within an hour, but the clean-up operation to ensure the A287 was safe to reopen took longer than expected.
