Residents in Tilford have expressed their fury after several witnesses saw a car drive onto the village green, perform donut turns, and then land on its side.

A 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander was photographed by residents with its headlights on, engine running, and wheels still spinning. Inscribed on the dusty rear window of the car were the words "brand new."

One resident, who was at the nearby Barley Mow pub at the time, said: "Like many at the pub at the time, I looked outside and I saw a car on its side with the wheels still spinning.

"It was obviously idiots doing donuts. But it's not the first time it's happened, as the same thing happened a couple of weeks ago, and there is nothing to stop them doing it."

Some residents have called for a fence to be erected to prevent reckless driving, but this would cause issues for the village cricket club, which uses the green for matches in the summer.

Residents alleged that three young men disappeared behind nearby buildings after the car was found on its side and locals went to investigate and take photos.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: “Officers were called to reports of an incident near Tilford Street, Farnham, at around 8.26pm on Wednesday, March 19.

“On arrival, officers discovered a black Mitsubishi Outlander on its side on the village green. Working with Surrey Fire and Rescue, the vehicle was made safe before officers left the scene at around 10pm.”

A spokesperson for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, which also attended, said: "We were called at approximately 8.58pm on Wednesday, 19 March, to an incident on Tilford Street, Farnham.

"One car was involved, and there were no casualties. Our crews left the scene at 9.40pm after making the vehicle safe."
