A FARNHAM woman has been jailed for more than two years for her part in helping murderer Darren Pencille avoid capture.

Chelsea Mitchell, 28, and her boyfriend Pencille, 36, were arrested by armed police at her flat in Willbury Gardens, opposite Farnham Hospital, on January 5.

It came less than 18 hours after Pencille had brutally stabbed to death family man Lee Pomeroy onboard a train, just metres away from his teenage son.

Last Friday, Pencille was found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey and jailed for life with a minimum of 28 years behind bars.

The court heard Pencille and his victim became embroiled in a heated argument within minutes of boarding the London-bound train at London Road station in Guildford.

Soon after, Pencille was heard to talk into his phone “I’m gonna kill this man”… “He’ll be dead.” This was alleged to have been a call made to co-defendant Mitchell.

CCTV then showed Pencille pulling a knife from his pocket and stabbing Mr Pomeroy in the neck and upper torso 18 times, in a frenzied 27-second attack.

Mr Pomeroy died just over an hour later despite the efforts of police and paramedics.

As Pencille fled he called Mitchell, who picked him up and took him back to her flat where Mitchell used her mobile to search for news reports relating to the stabbing, whether there were CCTV cameras at London Road station, and creating a video of Pencille’s injuries.

She then went to a local Tesco and bought hair clippers with the intention of helping Pencille shave his head in the hope of changing his appearance.

They also drove from the Willbury Road address to Frensham Ponds, and then to Chichester and Bognor Regis in West Sussex.

However, they then returned home and were arrested hours later.

Mitchell was found guilty of assisting an offender and handed a 28-month prison sentence.
