WHAT”S in a name? Thirty seven pupils at Hale Primary School were set the challenge of devising a name for the new Porthaven care home in West Street, due to open in the autumn of this year.

Porthaven says the company is always very keen to integrate with the local community, so suggested that participants research the locality to ensure that the name would be linked to the area. Prizes included a £50 voucher for the winner and two runner-up prizes of £25.

Amelia Sheffield-Cole, aged 11, came up with the winning name: Bourne Wood Manor.

A porthaven spokesperson said: “Her inspiration was the beautiful woodland near the Surrey/Hampshire border that our care home is set against. Well done to Amelia! The perfect name.”

Porthaven Care Homes is a small, independent family of care homes, and the company prides itself on running its homes professionally, responsibly and with integrity.

Bourne Wood Manor will offer 24-hour residential, nursing, dementia and respite care for residents. Every bedroom will have an ensuite wetroom and there will a selection of comfortable living areas for socialising, a variety of dining areas, and a cafe for time with loved ones, a cinema, hairdressing salon plus an activities room.
