PUPILS and staff at Anstey Junior School celebrated World Book Day in style last Friday by dressing up as book characters.

The costumes were imaginative, innovative and eye-catching and included fairytale characters such as Goldilocks; classic literature was represented with characters like Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland, while popular literature produced Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr Fox, and the more modern Minecraft.

The children were taught by staff dressed as the Queen of Hearts, Oona (the elephant from running wild), and Thing One and Thing Two, to name but a few.

World Book Day was set up as a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and, probably most important of all, reading.

The children participated in activities during the day related to books and reading and had a fantastic day. All children were given a book day voucher at the end of the day.
