Archie Southworth is cycling 603 miles from John O' Groats to Lands End in memory of his father Jim.
He began on Wednesday, May 29 and is due to finish his ride on Tuesday, June 11 and has raised nearly more than £4,000 over his fundraising target.
On his JustGiving page, Archie said: “I will be raising money for Cancer Research and Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, who have supported my late father and my family tremendously during his battle with cancer over this last year.
“With 1 in 2 people being diagnosed with some form of cancer over their lifetime. It's increasingly important that these types of organisations have the funds to both prevent this disease, and look after those who are unfortunate enough to experience it.”
Jim worked in the gaming industry and led the Baldur's Gate 3 cinematic animation team and prior to his passing, the game won seven Golden Joystick awards. Including the ‘Best Storytelling’ and ‘Best Visual Design’ awards.
In his obituary on PC Gamer, work colleagues described Jim as a “father figure” and that he had a positive impact on those around him.
Archie’s friend Robert Amos, spoke to The Herald about his journey.
Robert said: “It’s a hell of a physical challenge and Archie has been training for it since his father passed away. He said how Phyllis Tuckwell were so supportive of the family and how they offered guidance and how to deal with what they were going through.
“He has got friends and family supporting him along the way at various points and I’m hoping to do a stretch with him as well.”
Archie wants to split proceeds evenly between both charities and asks people to keep that in mind when donating.
