A council has urged residents to use reputable waste disposal firms after fly-tippers blocked a path in Farnham with rubble and asbestos.
Waverley Borough Council received seven reports of waste being dumped on Darvill’s Lane within three hours of the incident on Tuesday, August 6.
The rubbish blocked off the path completely and contained black bags, household waste and builders’ rubble, some of which contained asbestos.
A Waverley Borough Council spokesperson said: "Fly-tipping remains a significant issue, affecting the countryside and costing the council a substantial amount of taxpayers’ money.
“We aim to visit and clear all reported fly-tips on public land within three working days whenever possible.”
“Additionally, we remind residents to be cautious when hiring private waste contractors.
“Your waste could be fly-tipped, making you liable for a fine of up to £300 or prosecution. Always ensure the contractor is licensed and request a waste transfer note to confirm proper disposal."
