BOHUNT sixth form hosted its first open evening since officially welcoming the first cohort of A-Level students in September.
Guests had the opportunity to see the state-of-the-art facilities, equipped with undergraduate-style science laboratories, a designated visual arts room, a music room which includes special recording facilities and numerous individual creative workspaces.
Visitors were able to watch a 10-minute film showing a snippet of life at the new sixth form, by following students around, taking a look around the building, listen to conversations with students and key members of staff, including the school’s new head of sixth form Clare Hodgson and Bohunt headteacher Neil Strowger.
Clare said: “Our first open evening was a real success, and an excellent opportunity for prospective students and parents to experience life at Bohunt sixth form, especially now our first cohort is up and running.
“I was delighted to be joined by headteachers Mark Marande, from The Petersfield School, and Graham Spawforth, from Ditcham Park, who are all part of the Bohunt Education Trust, to meet and speak with guests about the fantastic opportunities available here.”
She emphasised the personalised benefits of a smaller college, structured similar to a mini university, which offers students a better quality of learning through a bespoke curriculum.
The sixth form programme also includes enrichment for all students with a range of opportunities and a number of activities to encourage them to expand their horizons by participating in activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme.
Mr Strowger, who is also chief executive of Bohunt Education Trust (BET), said: “The first academic year of our brand new sixth form has started brilliantly, and our students have shown tremendous passion and enthusiasm for all their new subjects and opportunities available.
“We have been delighted to host our open evening, enabling more young people and parents to experience and explore our sixth form and all the opportunities that studying here brings, from our highly aspirational outdoor education programme to outstanding teaching and personalised support.”
Mr Strowger spoke about Bohunt’s long-standing ambition going back several decades, to have a sixth form college, and after applying twice before, being turned down each time and finally succeeding.
But he stressed, the college – which offers 26 subjects, is not exclusively for the use of Bohunt students. It is a sixth form for the entire district with the focus on the joy of learning, overcoming challenges and the ambition in achieving.
