Problem parking will get worse as motorists try to avoid charges at a Farnham beauty spot popular with walkers and filmmakers.
That’s the worry of residents next to Bourne Wood as Forestry England have introduced parking charges at its site off Tilford Road.
Costs range from £1 for two hours or £3 for the day to a £48 annual pass but resident Helen Wilkinson fears many people won’t cough up if they can park elsewhere for free.
The increasing popularity of the site, especially as a filming location, has left the resident struggling to leave her home at times.
She said: “We are already impacted by inappropriate parking in this location which I anticipate will only get worse.
“When they start filming many people park in front of our house and don’t care we have had to put a sign out to stop them.”
Forestry England have defended the move, saying they can’t take responsibility for people who choose to park in unpermitted areas on nearby public highways.
The spokesperson said: “We manage car parking on our land here with clear signage and information about responsible parking.”
However, some residents have claimed Forestry England have introduced charges because the RSPB have applied to create their own car park nearby.
The organisation has expressed concern about possibility of increased verge parking on Tilford Road and the knock-on impacts on their use of Bourne Wood if the RSPB plan is approved.
The RSPB will also be implementing parking charges which residents fear will only encourage anti-social parking.
