EAST Hampshire District Council has helped give autistic adults and those with learning and physical disabilities a new experience through a charity grant.

The council granted FitzRoy, based in St Peter’s Road in Petersfield, more than £10,000 to create a state-of-the-art sensory room which provides a therapeutic and stimulating environment for its members.

The grant was one of 61 given to projects across the district as part of the council’s Supporting Communities Fund, a scheme set up to support community groups and charities. It started in 2019 with £1 million to spend over three years. A new £1m instalment has been lined up for 2022 to 20225.

First Headley Scout Group received £12,000 towards a Scout centre extension. A timber-framed store was built to house tents, lockers and other equipment and replace an old and unsightly shipping container which was beyond repair.

Greatham Primary School received £10,000 towards upgrading the school’s hall and disabled toilet facilities,

Grayshott Concerts received £8,000 to stage live music events. One of the concerts was in support of ’Covid Heroes’ and was free to those people who supported the public during lockdown, including health workers, delivery drivers and essential shop workers.

Holybourne Village Hall received £8,000 towards the refurbishment of its toilets.

The Kings Arms in Alton received a £15,000 grant towards building work on its youth centre.
