Don’t lose sight of the importance of regular eye tests: that’s the message a Farnham opticians has made to the public to coincide with National Eye Health Week.

More than 2 million people in the UK are living with sight loss, but 50 per cent of cases could have been avoided with regular eye care according to Leightons Opticians & Hearing Care.

Routine eye tests will not only ensure clear vision but can also detect early signs of eye conditions and underlying health conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.

Simple lifestyle changes like eating a balanced diet and taking regular screen breaks can also keep your eyes healthy.

Anyone with concerns about their eyesight have been invited to book an “Ultimate Eye Test” with Leightons but the firm also has some guidance for keeping eyes healthy and avoiding common eye problems, from puffy eyes to digital eye strain, like adding leafy greens and brightly coloured fruit to a diet.

Smoking also affects our eyes and is the biggest risk factor for developing macular degeneration, and also increases the likelihood of cataracts.

Kiki Soteri, Head of Clinical Services at Leightons said: “National Eye Health Week is an opportunity for us to provide all our patients with top tips on how to maintain their vision and eye health.

“As well as enhanced eye exams, imaging and scans to provide better early insight for both patient and practitioner, we are rolling out a range of consulting room based dry eye treatment services.”
