Further details have emerged on the transformation of the Anchor Garage into Liphook’s first Living Room Cinema.

The inaugural project is led by Claire Beswick, a Liphook local and veteran of the cinema industry, who started out as a staffer in a multiplex, before going on to work in film booking for Odeon and Curzon Cinemas.

She has also worked as a freelance film consultant, helping independent producers, and is a graduate of the respected Inside Pictures, an intensive film business programme.

Her new venture, the Living Room Cinema, is described as "a chain that revolutionises the cinema-going experience" and her first project is due to open in Liphook later this year.

Claire has recently been recognised by Celluloid Junkie as one of the 50 Women in Global Cinema in 2018. She started the Living Room Cinema to provide smaller provincial locations with a quality cinema offer.

"Our aim is to bring communities together, breathe life back into the High Street and re-establish cinema at its heart," she said.

The cinema aims to achieve a home-from-home experience with traditional art deco exterior features as well as an all-day cafe which transforms into a bar, serving cocktails by night.

A three-tier membership scheme will be offering a range of loyalty rewards.

The white membership costs £75 and benefits include two free tickets each year, reduced priced tickets for two throughout the year as well as 15 per cent off all food and drink.

The green membership at £500 includes unlimited tickets for the ultimate film fan plus members’-priced tickets for a guest, priority booking for special events, 15 per cent off all food and drinks and invitations to members’-only screenings of pre-release films.

The cinema also offers 30 VIP founder membership packages at £1,500 each, which entitle the holder to unlimited tickets for two, a complimentary glass of wine, beer or a soft drink during each visit, priority bookings for special events, a private screening of a film of the holder’s choice for a birthday celebration, an invitation to the VIP launch party, 15 per cent of all food and drinks and invitations to members’-only screenings of pre-release films.

Membership packages will be renewed at the green card price, yet founder members’ benefits will remain for the lifetime of the member.

The most important part of any cinema, the film programme, aims to feature something for everyone - from award-winning dramas, independent and family films to screenings for the hard of hearing and new mums.

Live performances showcasing the best in theatre and ballet will be screened and a special events programme will feature Q&As and presentations from film makers. Guests will also be able to flex their film muscles at a monthly film quiz, and younger audiences can attend exciting film maker workshops.
