TEMPERATURES also soared on the day Hindhead Golf Club’s lady captain, Karen Hawkins, chose ’Colours of the Caribbean’ for her captain’s day.
In keeping with the theme, lady members all arrived in an array of colourful clothes, hats and flower garlands. But the parrot hat sported by Jo Hughes-Chamberlain (pictured) was definitely the most eye-catching.
The format for the day was to gain the best two scores from teams of three, and there were a number of challenges along the way, including unusual tee and pin positions that could earn extra points.
There was also the odd palm tree to be spotted on the course, and the rum punches and reggae at the half-way hut, all added to the Caribbean vibe.
A Caribbean-style lunch was also served, along with a very English glass of Pimm’s.
The fun day was held to raise money for the lady captain’s charity of the year, the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, and it netted £495 through a raffle and various golf challenges.
“It was a very special day for me,” Karen said. “I enjoyed every moment due to the wonderful ladies of Hindhead.”
