AN innovative and far-reaching plan to build a new community centre on a prime site on the outskirts of the town has moved a step closer. Planned to take shape within the next five years, the massive project by Festival for Young People is envisaged to be the meeting place for the young and not so young for years to come. Measuring around 50 square metres, the controversial plan has long been proposed by Nigel Wells on land at Love Lane recreation ground. But now a commitment has been given by Petersfield Town Council to allocate land for the creation of the new community facility in principle, to "allow the Festival for Young People to go forward and obtain design plans to enable them to raise funding".
