There were joyful and triumphant scenes in St Andrew’s Church as Farnham came together for a twelfth night of festive music.
Hearts were warmed and the angels definitely sung at the 12th annual Farnham Civic Christmas Carol Service.
The event organised by the town council and hosted by mayor, Cllr Brodie Mauluka, included an enchanting performance by the Farnham Youth Choir.
The internationally acclaimed outfit were led by conductor Patrick Barrett with Matthew Rickard providing support on piano and organ.
There were readings throughout the service from the likes of Simon Jamison of 40Degreez, town councillor Kika Mirylees and Grace Kay from FYC. The young people of Farnham were also represented with Cllr Mauluka and Deputy Lieutenant Caroline Breckell MVO both speaking.
Cllr Mauluka said: “Coming together to celebrate Christmas as a community made for a very special evening.
“Music and young people are both very important to me and I am grateful to FYC for such a wonderful and memorable performance.
“The service led by the Revd David Uffindell reminded us of the sentiments which are at the heart of Christmas: compassion, forgiveness, and community. Hosting this service was an honour and was an opportunity to thank the incredible volunteers who give so much to our community.”
A retiring collection raised £675 with proceeds being divided between the mayor’s charities, 40Degreez and Charlie’s Promise.
Revellers can enjoy more of the same this Friday as a community carol singing event will begin at 6pm outside Hale Chapels’ Garden off Alma Lane.
Music will be provided by Badshot Lea parishioners and two-thirds of the band, Cajun Boogaloo, with mulled wine and mince pies being served afterwards at St Mark’s.
Expect carols with a folky twist with O Little Town, Hark the Herald and O Come all ye Faithful on the programme.
