More than 200 people came together at Tilford Village Green to raise £17,000 for a school's new athletics track.
It was organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) for All Saints C of E Aided Infant School. Despite the rain, the community spirit shone through as participants did the 5K or 10K while enjoying inflatable games, food stalls, and more.
AMYA regional director said: “We aimed to raise awareness and funds for the All Saints School athletics track, a facility benefitting both the local residents and school attendees.
“I am glad that despite the rain the event has attracted families and community members beyond just the participants in the run."
Winner of the 10K run Jack Wallace added: “Today was pretty good, I just wanted to get out there and support the great cause.”
Awards for the runs were presented by Waverley Mayor, Cllr Penny Rivers and AMYA national president Abdul Quddus Arif.
AMYA is an auxiliary body of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, a religious and charitable Muslim organisation.
With more than 10,000 members spread across 140 chapters in the United Kingdom, AMYA frequently partakes in tree planting, supporting the homeless and food bank donation sessions.
In 2022, it raised over £500,000 pounds for various British charities, facilitated 1.6 million meals being given to the vulnerable, and donated over 10 tonnes of food to food banks across the UK. Earlier in the year, AMYA collected 1,000kg of food and other necessities for those in need.
