A new chapter is unfolding for the old Slug and Lettuce bar on East Street in Farnham, as Wetherspoons prepares to take over the site.
The signs bearing the name of the former owners have already been removed, marking a farewell to the town for the nightspot.
Wetherspoons, the popular pub chain famous for its budget-friendly pints and food, is in the process of finalising plans and assessing costs for the transformation. A spokesman for the company, however, confirmed that no firm timeline has been set regarding construction or the opening of the new venue.
“Wetherspoon is currently pulling together the plans and costs for the new pub. There are no set on-site/opening dates as yet,” he said.
The announcement of Wetherspoon’s plans in November sparked mixed reactions among residents. Some argued that Farnham could benefit from a more affordable option in its otherwise high-end dining scene, while others were concerned that the pub's clientele may bring disorder to the town centre.
