After facing the threat of closure and a massive community fundraising effort last year, the Rural Life Living Museum will be opening its doors for the Surrey Hills Spring Fair this weekend.

Held in partnership with Surrey Hills Enterprises CIC, the Surrey Hills Spring Fair celebrates the very best of the county’s food, drink, art, and crafts, supporting local independent artisans, craftspeople, and stallholders.

Visitors can enjoy two days filled with activities, live entertainment, countryside traditions, and delicious food and drink.

The fair offers a perfect opportunity to experience the museum’s fascinating collection, with volunteers bringing the exhibits to life through demonstrations, crafts, and hands-on activities. Throughout the 10-acre site, visitors can explore numerous stalls while immersing themselves in the museum's rich heritage.

This year, the museum’s Sawmill and Bench Saw will be operating in the Wood Yard’s working sawmill. Guests can also watch wood turning and blacksmithing demonstrations at the Forge. The Old Kiln Light Railway will be offering train rides across the site.

Maggie Howell, chief executive of Surrey Hills Enterprises, says, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be opening the season with the Surrey Hills Spring Fair at the Rural Life Living Museum – it’s a real celebration of everything we stand for: community spirit, countryside traditions, and championing our incredible local artisans.

“It’s the perfect way to kick off the Easter holidays – get outdoors, support independent businesses, and experience the magic of Surrey Hills.”

Ed Fagan, museum director at the Rural Life Living Museum, adds, “We are delighted to be hosting the Surrey Hills Spring Fair here at the museum. It’s been a challenging year for us financially, with huge fundraising efforts from our wonderful and supportive community taking place last year.

“This weekend is therefore extra special – the museum is open, and we welcome all the delights of the Surrey Hills Spring Fair.”

Tickets are available via the Surrey Hills Enterprises website or directly from the Rural Life Living Museum.

The Surrey Hills Spring Fair will take place at the Rural Life Living Museum, Reeds Road, in Tilford from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, April 5, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday, April 6, 2025.
