A Mediterranean restaurant was the target of an assault leaving the Farnham community alarmed.
The Luxe in the Lion and Lamb Yard was left in disarray with its front windows smashed and parts of the interior damaged. Accounts of the attack were posted on social media in the early hours of the morning on Friday, July 19.
A Surrey Police spokesman later confirmed that officers had been called to the restaurant just after midnight on July 19, following reports of an altercation.
A resident claimed that the restaurant was still open at the time and the incident was between 12.03am and 12.06am.
Police said: “Five people – three men in their 30s, a man in his 20s, and a 17-year-old boy – have been arrested on suspicion of assault, and remain in police custody at this time.
“Three men were given medical attention at the scene by South East Coast Ambulance Service, and one was taken on to hospital for further treatment.”
A different restaurant in Hampshire had also experienced a similar incident in early July. An unconfirmed report stated that all front windows had been broken.
Elizabeth Morris, a resident at Lion and Lamb Yard, heard a commotion below her home just after midnight. She said she had heard things being hit and shouting in a foreign language and saw men running away from the site.
“They had baseball bats and possibly a machete. I got up and then I saw them drive off from the car park in four cars”, she added.
MP Greg Stafford commented: “Let's come together to show our support for The Luxe and help them bounce back from this unfortunate event.”
The Luxe reopened in the evening on the same day. Its normal opening hours are 10am to 11pm every day. The five people who were arrested have now been released on bail and investigations are ongoing.
