AN Alton man was one of two East Hampshire residents jailed for non-payment of council tax.
Four residents appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on July 18 as part of an East Hampshire District Council crackdown.
Two were given prison sentences and two were handed suspended sentences.
Robert Ingram, of Southview Rise, Alton, was sentenced to 50 days for non-payment of council tax arrears totalling £2,558.43.
Mr Ingram had been given a suspended prison sentence at an earlier court hearing, giving him the opportunity to settle the debt in instalments of £40 per fortnight.
However, he had made no payments at all, leaving the magistrates with little option but to impose the sentence.
