A town councillor will be dyeing his hair purple and putting on his dancing schools in a moving bid to support a Farnham school in its golden anniversary year.

Cllr Chris Jackman has signed up to a marathon 12-hour dance-a-thon to raise money for William Cobbett Primary School in its 50th birthday year.

“William Corbett is an excellent school and gives amazing support, especially to pupils with Special Educational Needs - its provision is something else,” said the Badshot Lea and Moor Park independent councillor, whose two children attend the school.

“I felt it was time to give something back and decided to raise money for the school’s appeal.

“It hopes to raise £50,000 during this academic year to improve its facilities so that children can have wider sporting experiences including hockey, tennis and more play space all year round. In time they plan to install a large AstroTurf pitch.”

Chris, who hopes to raise £1,250 for the school, will be accompanied by Farnham born-and-bred colleague Pauline Andrews during the November 2 event at a local community centre.

“We’ll be dancing to a mix of our taste in music,” added Cllr Jackman.

“Mine will be soft rock while Pauline is into 1970s music and Motown. I’ll dye my hair about a week before then shave it off afterwards.”

This isn’t the first time Chris has sported a new colour in his hair.

He added: “I went green for Macmillan Cancer Support and raised £5,000. This time I thought I’d better do something quickly as my bald patch is getting bigger so I’d better do it before I lose all my hair!”

“My children think I am slightly bonkers but understand the importance of helping to children to have better facilities.”
