HOOPS Velo is calling on the public’s help in supporting local rider James Boyman accomplish his dreams to be a pro.
Commenting on the crowdfunding webpage, Rob Oades, manager at the East Street cycling store, said: “We here at Hoops are passionate about cycling, its why we do what we do best, sell cycling as a life style, a sport and its great community.
“We get a fair amount of riders asking for support to help them along their journey in cycling. However every now and then you get that tingle when you know this guy or girl can do something special.
“Enter James Boyman, imagine dry ice around his feet, walking to Eye of the Tiger. James has been a customer with us for a while now and we know his journey has had its ups and downs.”
James’ outlook on life changed significantly after undergoing treatment following news of testicular cancer in 2012.
Hoop Velo was touched by James’ story and were more than happy to jump on board and help - with their expert workshop and its partner, Trek Bikes, it has supplied James with racing weapons of choice.
“He grew up racing bikes but hadn’t raced for a few years, and then in 2015 he returned to racing with a fair degree of success,” added Rob.
“As being a professional cyclist is what he’s always wanted to do and having his ;wake up call;, he decided on ditching the desk job and began cycling full time in pursuit of making it and fulfilling the dream.”
The team at Hoops are looking to help fund James with his travel, race costs and all the mixed nuts he can buy this season.
“Being a full-time athlete with little support is hard enough so we wanted to take the load off. If we can get him to the nationals and get James noticed we have done our job,” concluded Rob.
So far £240 has been raised out of the £2,000 target – support James on his journey to become pro by visiting www.crowdfunder.co.uk/support-james-boyman, to make a donation.
