SOUTH Farnham School was delighted to welcome a real axe-wielding Anglo Saxon warrior last week.

Year four pupils learnt how Anglo Saxons dressed in this period of time and how their clothes reflected their rank in society.

As soldiers in battle, the warrior unveiled the steel coat of armour which protected soldiers from short range harm and various weapons.

Everyone was amazed that soldiers ran and fought in such a heavy item of clothing, while carrying spears and shields.

Battle tactics were also discussed and children had the exciting experience of defending themselves using shields
