EAST Hampshire voters could be hit for six if they are not on the electoral register by tomorrow.
On May 5, no fewer than six elections will be run in the district with thousands having the chance to vote in more than one.
They include the county wide election for a new police and crime commissioner for the Hampshire police area, for which there are seven candidates – Richard Adair (Liberal Democrat), Simon Hayes (Independent), Don Jerrard (Independent), Michael Lane (Conservative), Robin Price (Labour), Roy Swales (UKIP), and Steve Watts (Zero Tolerance Policing).
In addition, residents in Headley, Grayshott and Liphook will have the opportunity to vote for a new Hampshire County Council representative, after current representative Ferris Cowper announced in March that he would be stepping down, having held the post since 2011.
Residents living in the relevant areas will be asked to vote in the Bentley Neighbourhood Plan and the Medstead and Four Marks Neighbourhood Plan referendums.
While in Petersfield there will an opportunity to vote for a representative for the St Mary’s ward of Petersfield Town Council, and people in Clanfield and Finchdean will be invited to vote for a ward representative on East Hampshire District Council.
Sandy Hopkins, returning officer for the election, said: “With six elections being held in East Hampshire on May 5 everyone will have the chance to get involved in local democracy.
“Don’t miss the opportunity to take part in these elections and have your say on issues that make a big difference to where you live. The deadline to register is Monday, so if you’re not already registered, please don’t delay.”
Residents can register to vote quickly and easily online at gov.uk/register-to-vote or obtain a registration form by calling 01730 234350.
Voters can also have their say using postal votes, which means not having to visit the ballot box on May 5. You must apply for a postal vote application form before Tuesday, April 19.
