A 15-year-old actor from Farnham has made a dazzling debut on the red carpet at the Royal Television Awards — and returned home a victor.

Oliver Savell took home the prestigious Best Male Comedy Performance award for his standout portrayal of a young Alan Carr in Changing Ends on March 25.

The show, a biographical comedy about TV comedian Alan Carr and his life as the son of a football manager, premiered on the ITVX streaming service before airing on ITV.

Set in the 1980s, the show captures Alan’s formative years and the quirky family dynamics that shaped his future career.

But that wasn't Oliver's only achievement. In the same week that he received his award, he also learned that he had been nominated for a BAFTA TV award for Male Performance in a Comedy Programme. He will be competing against the likes of star actor Danny Dyer for the prestigious honour.

Oliver said: “It was the most amazing feeling when Tom Allen called my name, and I had to go up in front of all those people and deliver a speech.

“I felt incredible and was still processing the fact that I had won the RTS award when I found out I had been nominated for a BAFTA. When I saw my name, I was speechless. It is the best feeling ever, and I feel so honoured to have been nominated.”

Oliver is now preparing for the next round of filming for the upcoming series of Changing Ends later this year, but he teased that there’s an exciting project on the horizon that he can’t wait to share with everyone.
