WEYDON School’s class of 2021 should be “exceptionally proud” of their exam results after another record-breaking year at the Farnham secondary school, principal Jackie Sharman has said.
“We are always proud of our students, and particularly so of the class of 2021,” added Mrs Sharman.
“When the nation locked down in October 2020 our young people were acutely aware this was their examination year and yet they responded with resilience and strength of character.
“They worked hard, engaged well with their teachers online and when they returned after Christmas, attended extra classes whenever they could to obtain a set of results they can be exceptionally proud of.
“Students undertook a thorough and strict testing process to achieve the teacher assessed grades they achieved, showing they have progressed superbly well.
“Working together, the students and teachers of Weydon School have built on our tradition of hard work and success, achieving another record-breaking set of results and creating a great launchpad for future dreams.”
Weydon’s results:
* 89 per cent of students achieved a grade 4 GCSE pass including English and Maths
* 80 per cent of students achieved a grade 5 strong pass including English and Maths (“An improvement on last year’s outstanding results,” said Mrs Sharman).
* 55 per cent of students achieved grade 7-9 (previously A*-A grade) – an increase of seven per cent on last year
* Weydon’s attainment 8 grade was 6.46.
Two students achieved the very prestigious grade 9 in every subject they took, a “mighty achievement”, added Mrs Sharman.
The principal continued: “This Y11 cohort have been through a tough couple of years with the uncertainty surrounding Covid-19, but their strong work ethic and resilience shone through.
“The students and staff worked tirelessly as a team to ensure their grades were not affected and they have been rewarded.
“Particular praise should go to their progress and achievement leaders, Miss Smith and Mrs Islip, who always went the extra mile to provide support, guidance and a sense of fun and celebration for their year group. With hard work and belief, you can succeed.
“We wish them all the best for their next exciting chapter and will look back on their time with us with fond memories.”
