MILL Chase Academy in Bordon will have a whole new identity to go with its pristine new building when the autumn term starts in September.

The new building - part of the expansion and regeneration of Whitehill & Bordon - is currently taking shape in Budds Lane, and the secondary school is already preparing for the move.

But when the 2019-20 academic year begins, pupils will be wearing a new uniform and heading to Oakmoor School.

The new name was chosen following extensive consultation with current pupils, their parents and primary school pupils who will be moving up to secondary level next year.

The design of the new uniform has been selected by current pupils and their parents.

Mill Chase headteacher Paul Hemmings said: "I am really proud of what we have achieved at Mill Chase Academy and we will retain our great ethos and values.

"At the same time, this is also a superb opportunity to start an exciting new chapter in education across Bordon."

The current school is in Mill Chase Road. The name chosen for the new one is a combination of Oakhanger Road and Hogmoor Road/Hogmoor Inclosure, which are close to the new site in Budds Lane.

Jane Evans, who chairs the governing body, said: "We had some great names suggested and Oakmoor School was the most popular."

Mr Hemmings said: "In my Year 6 assemblies during the autumn term, the children were overwhelmingly positive about the name Oakmoor School for their new school as well.

"These decisions will be part of our school and town community for at least 100 years.

"It is an exciting opportunity and a significant responsibility, so it was important we worked together to get this right."

Mr Hemmings said he recognised the importance of affordability when choosing a school uniform: "We are currently sourcing the best-value suppliers.

"With the current Mill Chase uniform, our blazer, polo shirt, jumper and skirt all carry the school badge, and this makes buying uniform more expensive for parents and carers.

"With our new Oakmoor School uniform, we will be placing the school badge only on the blazer and jumper, to minimise the cost of the uniform for parents."

The school will also open with a new logo, which will be designed to demonstrate the link between the school and the University of Chichester.

The school is part of the University of Chichester Academy Trust, and is currently working with the university design team to create its new logo.

The Mill Chase Road buildings were opened in 1958.

The school’s last name change occurred in November 2013, when the University of Chichester Academy Trust became academy sponsor of the school, which was then known as Mill Chase Community Technology College.
