BORDON’S Weyford Infant and Junior schools marked the end of an era last week, as the adjacent schools prepare to merge into a single all-through primary.

Weyford Infant School and Nursery will join forces with Weyford Junior School, both in Waterside Close, Bordon, from September.

Plans to amalgamate the schools were rubber stamped in January following a public consultation. Hampshire County Council gave the go ahead and praised staff for their “commitment to working in a way that prioritises children’s progress”.

In order to make it official, Weyford Infant School and Nursery, which opened its doors in 1913, has had to be discontinued. This does not mean the physical closure of the school - it is just required for legal documentation. The day-to-day running of the schools, in their current locations, will not change much. However, the leadership will be restructured and a single governing body will be established.

Weyford Infant School governor Sam Archibald said the decision made sense as most of the junior intake each year came from the infant school. Combined with departing headteachers, the time seemed right to merge.

The new primary school is set to be operational from September, providing 630 places, over the two sites, for pupils aged four to 11 years, together with pre-school provision for two to four year olds.

To mark the historic event, the school hosted a party for children last Friday, July 21.
