AODS will present Return To The Forbidden Planet at the Alton Assembly Rooms from May 14 to 17.
Fasten your seatbelts, return your tray tables to the upright position and prepare to blast off into space for this fun-filled jukebox musical.
It features rock ’n’ roll hits of the 1950s and 1960s including Great Balls Of Fire, Shake Rattle And Roll, Teenager In Love, The Monster Mash and Good Vibrations.
AODS honorary secretary Chrissie White said: “Following on from the success of Legally Blonde last year we can't wait to bring this fantastic jukebox musical to our Alton audiences.”
Return To The Forbidden Planet, by Bob Carlton, is based on the 1956 science fiction film Forbidden Planet which, in turn, is loosely based on Shakespeare’s play The Tempest, with dialogue largely adapted from well-known passages from Shakespeare.
The musical follows Captain Tempest and the crew of the Intergalactic Starship Albatross on a routine scientific survey flight that takes a disastrous turn when they are caught in a violent asteroid storm which damages the ship.
When they crash-land on the mysterious planet D’Illyria, the crew encounter Doctor Prospero, his daughter Miranda and their robot Ariel, leading to a series of events involving dark secrets, unrequited love and a scary space monster.
Chrissie added: “We have a sensational cast who are busy rehearsing and can't wait to welcome you on board the Starship Albatross for an exciting adventure into the far out reaches of space.”
Evening performances are at 7.30pm. There is a 2.30pm matinee on May 17. For tickets visit www.aods.org or call 0333 666 3366.
