A happy crowd tucked into picnics and were entertained regally by a bright, breezy and sunny selection of music from the Alton Concert Band at the Eden Project Big Lunch in the Public Gardens sunshine on June 2.
A rousing rendition of Eric Coates’ The Dam Busters March lit the way for a stroll through theatre land as Opening Night On Broadway was followed by ABBA On Broadway and a medley from The Lion King.
The audience were treated to popular swing and jazz numbers by Henry Mancini and Duke Ellington before returning to the silver screen with selections from Mary Poppins and tapping their feet at breathtaking pace to The Lord Of The Dance.
After the interval they were Breezin’ Down Broadway again after John Philip Sousa’s The Liberty Bell march stirred them from any potential early summer slumbers.
Highlights from The Jungle Book and several James Bond themes were firm favourites, as was a swashbuckling ride with the Pirates Of The Caribbean. A final medley from The Greatest Showman heralded cries of “Encore!”, to conductor Jeremy Morrish’s delight.
