An exhibition of Kwei Eden's creative practice to celebrate her art will be held at The Farnham Pottery from January 18 to 19.

Co-curators Hannah Facey and Katherine Smith said: “She was a local artist who studied at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham and sadly died earlier this year following a two-year battle with cancer.

“One of her dying wishes was to have an exhibition of her work so people could remember her.”

Kwei, who lived in Farnham, attended UCA from 2014 to 2019 and also performed locally as a musician in the band Eden Blacklist for a number of years. She died in July.

Kwei’s art encompassed drawing, painting, sculpture and performance, of which a selection will be on display.

In her early works Kwei worked predominantly with coloured pencil, creating beautiful and engaging abstracts dealing with emotions and the mundane.

On the fine art degree programme at UCA she became a performance artist but continued drawing to kick-start new performance work.

Of her degree show installation in 2019, she said: “I want to draw attention to perfection. How we are driven to strive for this through the internal expectations we place on ourselves based on external pressure and cultural influences around us.”

Kwei won the Biennial Open Art Competition at Pallant House in Chichester in 2009. She also exhibited in Bethnal Green, Lewisham, Euston, the UCA and Hoxton.

Hannah and Katherine said: “:Kwei’s main wish before her death was that she should be remembered; Kwei would love that people are gathering and sharing memories of her while surrounded by her passions.”
