A new theatre company based in Farnham will perform two plays at the Farnham Maltings this summer.
The Get A Proper Job Theatre Company is staging The Dumb Waiter by Harold Pinter and The Flick by Annie Baker.
Artistic director Duncan Hoare told the Herald that the company members were doing their best to not live up to its name.
He said: “We're aiming to grow to a point where we can tour work, both new stagings of written works and new plays of our own.
“We're just excited to tell stories in the venues that we love. It helps that we all get on so well, and we all agree that we're not getting a ‘proper job’ any time soon!”
The company was founded by Nico Argenti and Sam Jolliffe in 2023, Duncan joined in 2024, followed by Nick Rumsby and Liliana Butler.
Home town shows combine familiar surroundings with pressure to get things right, added director Nico.
Speaking to the Herald, Nico said: "I think it's very exciting to stage these shows where we live - it's definitely nerve-wracking knowing people who I work with or grew up with will be seeing the show.”
The Flick follows cinema employees while The Dumb Waiter focuses on hit-men.
Duncan said: "I chose The Flick because it was something that just seemed so relevant, its themes of authenticity and technology just still crying out to a modern audience. It has something for everyone.
“Sam actually approached Nico and I with The Dumb Waiter as he loves Pinter. But again it had these themes that just cried out to be told again in the modern day!"
The Dumb Waiter is on July 23 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, tickets £10 (£5 students). The Flick is on August 30 at 7.30pm, tickets £10 (£6 students). Book at https://farnhammaltings.com/
