Folk fans are invited to start the new year with two concerts in the space of five days at the Theatre Royal Winchester.

First up on January 11 are The Ciderhouse Rebellion, comprising Adam Summerhayes and Murray Grainger.

Described as profound, haunting and dramatic, the pair – who play violin and accordion respectively – produce music on the spot while being inspired by traditional tunes and their own compositions.

Winners of Best Instrumental Album 2022, Summerhayes and Grainger are world touring professional artists in their own right who only began working together in 2020.

But they have already released four albums, featured on Radio 4 and performed at festivals across the UK and Europe.

On January 16 Reg Meuross will present his new song-cycle Fire & Dust - commissioned by The Who legend Pete Townshend - which delves into the life of American folk musician Woody Guthrie.

Meuross wins over audiences with his tenor voice and depth of material. He accompanies himself with a six-string guitar, harmonica, tenor guitar, banjo and dulcimer.

He is also touring songs from his back catalogue of 15 albums.

Both gigs start at 7.30pm and have tickets priced at £14.50, £18.50 or £21.50. To book call 01962 840440 or visit theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk
