Harp And A Monkey will perform for Grayshott Folk Club in Grayshott Village Hall on June 28 at 7.30pm.
The unique and evocative work of Martin Purdy (vocals, glockenspiel, accordion, harmonica and keyboards), Simon Jones (harp, guitar, viola) and Andy Smith (banjo, melodica, guitar and programming) is imbued with deep Lancashire sensibility that shines through beautifully crafted vignettes of life, love and remembrance.
From original compositions to traditional songs, they channel ghosts of summers spent in municipal parks and winters walking on the moors.
Influences include Ordnance Survey maps and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission as well as Chris Wood, Bjork, Ewan MacColl and The Oldham Tinkers.
They have released the albums Harp And A Monkey (2011), All Life Is Here (2014), War Stories (2016) and The Victorians (2019).
Each is based on in-depth research and is historically accurate. They have strong personal connections with their subjects so deliver songs with belief and passion.
