Enjoy a special concert with Will Gregory’s Moog Ensemble and the Britten Sinfonia at The Anvil in Basingstoke on October 9 at 8pm.
Lovingly restored analogue synthesisers bring back classic tracks and soundtracks in all their glory, from the original Dr Who theme and Wendy Carlos' Switched-On Bach to Vangelis’ Chariots of Fire theme and the score of Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange.
The Britten Sinfonia bring their own skills to the mix, including music by Charles Ives, while Will Gregory celebrates in music the genius of Archimedes with 'stand-up mathematician' and YouTube sensation Matt Parker.
Gregory’s ten-piece Moog Ensemble features illustrious musicians from Portishead, Florence + The Machine, and composer Graham Fitkin – each bringing their distinctive musicianship to the retro-futurist world of fizzing, funky synths.
The concert’s first half focuses on synthy, sci-fi movie soundtracks, while the second half features the premiere of Will Gregory’s suite for synths and orchestra, inspired by the theorems of the ancient Greek mathematician and physicist Archimedes. Alongside the work, there will be fascinating insights into the connections between maths and music.
