The New Ashgate Gallery in Farnham is presenting a year-long series of still life exhibitions in its Foyer Gallery.

Still life has long been a powerful genre, capturing moments of quiet beauty, the passage of time and the poetry of the ordinary.

Featuring bold colour, intricate texture and delicate observation, this series highlights the richness and diversity of contemporary still life painting.

Opening the programme is Emma Dunbar’s Colourful Conversations, on display until March 8, which is a joyful exploration of pattern and colour.

Known for her vibrant compositions, Dunbar creates playful yet sophisticated works that transform everyday moments into dynamic, decorative statements.

From March 15 until April 26, Angela A’Court’s Objects of Contemplation shifts the focus to soft pastel still lifes that embrace simplicity and texture.

A’Court’s process is deeply tactile - she physically engages with her subjects, translating their presence into atmospheric, memory-infused compositions.

Annie Waring’s A Sense of Calm, from May 3 until June 28, brings a more meditative approach.

Working in oils, she paints delicate arrangements of ceramics, flowers and fruit, capturing a quiet elegance in the everyday. Her subtle use of light and tone invites viewers into a world of serenity and balance.

The summer programme presents Sally Anne Fitter’s The Poetry of Everyday Moments from July 5 until September 6, where still life and landscape merge in richly textured, layered compositions.

Drawing on her background in textile design and ceramics, Fitter’s paintings are filled with collage, gold leaf and dynamic surface work, celebrating the changing seasons and the beauty of simple forms.

The series concludes with Rosalinda Kightley’s Surrey Artist of the Year 2024 One Year On exhibition from September 13 until November 1, marking the culmination of her award-winning practice.

Her still lifes blend bold floral arrangements with exquisite detail, offering a vibrant and expressive finale to this ambitious programme.
