Families can experience the best of the winter season by stepping into a world of folklore and magic.
Butser Ancient Farm in Chalton has a variety of activities to try in the colder months, with something for everyone with storytelling, plays, workshops, quests, celebrations and more.
For this month only is the Midwinter's Magical Quest - Yules of Yesteryear - where participants embark on an adventure through time that explores historical winter customs. Leading the experience is the Saxon Lady of Yule, alongside the Roman god of feasting, Saturn, the majestic Holly King, and the brave Deer Queen.
Butser Ancient Farm said: “Discover the meaning of the season on this heartwarming family adventure! A wholesome and whimsical escape from the stress of Christmas shopping.”
Kicking off January is a Lunar Connect and Reset on the 3rd, with a yoga session by Holly Hayward of Holly’s Harmony Yoga, reflective practices, and craft around a warm fire. Don’t worry if you miss out, there will be another one in late February!
Then in the middle of January, folks will gather after sundown and follow the Wassail Queen in a torchlit procession to make a hullabaloo in the Butser Orchard. Attendees will be joined by the Prize Old Mummers, and Hook Eagle Morris, to lead a joyful dance.
Other activities over the winter season include bronze casting workshops, a one-woman play, a Celtic spring celebration and an evening of tales inspired by the skies.
