SIMON Callow, 66, the actor best known for his appearances in the films Amadeus, Four Weddings And A Funeral and A Room With A View, has leant his support to the Farnham Theatre Association’s campaign to reinstate the Redgrave Theatre in East Street.
According to the association’s latest newsletter, after Callow’s recent performance of his one-man show celebrating Orson Welles’ life and achievements at Farnham Maltings, the actor stood on stage and announced: “Last time I was in Farnham I was at the Redgrave.”
The newsletter continues: “Simon Callow is another of the many who mourn the loss of the Redgrave and asserts strongly that ‘Farnham needs a theatre’. He supports Farnham Theatre Association’s aims and objectives, and we are delighted to announce that he will shortly be writing some memories of the Redgrave.”
Farnham Theatre Association has also recently received the backing of Fischer Dachs Associates, a US company specialising in theatre planning and design, towards its fight against Waverley Borough Council and developer Crest Nicholson’s plans to demolish the Redgrave as part of its Brightwells East Street scheme.
