Farnham Town Council is considering a proposal for four new pedestrian crossings in or near the town centre.
Councillor George Hesse (Farnham Residents, Castle ward) told a meeting vehicles were still speeding through the town centre’s new 20mph zone, and expressed pedestrian safety concerns.
He called on members to make an official request to Surrey County Council for ‘Berisha Beacon’ zebra crossings and speed calming tables in Longbridge, West Street between Mead Lane and Potters Gate, and the north side of Farnham Station.
Cllr Hesse also called for a new pedestrian crossing at the “informal” crossing point between Old Park Lane and the Farnham Castle side of the A287.
He said these crossings were requested in the initial Farnham Infrastructure Programme consultation, but have not been included in Surrey County Council’s town centre plans.
Responding, town council joint-leader Cllr Graham White said the question would be considered by Farnham’s infrastructure planning group.
