Farnham Weyside Rotary Club is bringing a taste of West Africa to its next talk and it’s open to local residents.

Local resident Richard Thomas will bring his experience of life in Nigeria to talk about the Bronzes of Ife and Benin. It will be held on Tuesday, August 20 at the Bush Hotel, at 7pm for a 7.15pm start.

The medieval bronzes of Ife in Nigeria and the Royal Heads and Plaques of Benin were ‘liberated’ by the British in 1897. They have since been kept in museums around the world and questions have arisen about returning them to Nigeria.

Richard will address these controversial issues during his talk.

The meeting starts with a two-course meal and coffee costing £22, followed by the talk. Those who do not wish to have a meal should join at 8.30pm.

Anyone interested in attending should contact secretary Bruce Merrels, on [email protected].
