ALTON Inner Wheel Club’s most senior member, Flo Hardy, was treated to a special cake at the monthly ‘pub lunch’ in celebration of her 101st birthday.

At their regulary monthly meeting, members welcomed Malcolm Wells from the charity Canine Partners, which raises money to help train dogs to enable disabled people to live independent lives.

Malcolm had many entertaining anecdotes, as well as explaining just how these dogs can be trained to do specific tasks, according to the needs of their owners.

One fascinating fact emerged from the talk at the meeting – that when the time comes for a group of dogs to be matched with partners, it is the dogs who choose their new partner and not the other way round!
