A bid to convert a former restaurant in Lower Bourne into housing has been served to planning officers.

Winterhill Developments have given planners at Waverley Borough Council food for thought with their proposals for The Bay Tree on Frensham Road.

The application seeks to convert the former eatery into a pair of three-bedroom semi-detached dwellings.

The ground floor will be converted into housing while the rear conservatory will be demolished and replaced with a two-storey extension.

The applicants insist the proposals will “significantly enhance” both the building and the surrounding area with planners already accepting the principal of change of use.

“The proposals will provide a high-quality and attractive scheme which will enhance the appearance of the existing building,” state agents, Michael Conoley Associates, in the Design & Access Statement.

Conversion has been a long time coming as the restaurant has been closed for around a decade with demolition previously being considered.
