A former post lady wants to turn a very special round into pounds for her deaf baby daughter.
Katie Edbrook is used to long walks as she pounded the streets of Farnham for years with her postbag.
But none will be as important as the one she’s planning in April for her profoundly deaf daughter, Tiggy.
Katie is warming up for a marathon-length sponsored walk in a bid to raise £18,000 for speech and language therapy for her 10-month-old baby girl.
The mother, who lives in Lower Froyle but has many social and work connections with Farnham, was recently told that Ziggy could hear through cochlear implants.
But she wants her to get speech and language therapy to give her the best chance in a hearing world, with charity Auditory Verbal UK offering a programme.
There is no funding for the AVUK course via the NHS, as there’s only 30 trained therapists in the UK while the programme costs around £6,000 a year.
So she’s putting her foot down – by going on 26.2mile walk along the Clarendon Way from Salisbury to Winchester sometime in the spring.
Katie said: “We went and met with AVUK to discuss if this would be a suitable option for Tiggy and it absolutely is.
“Our goal is to help Tiggy find her voice and have equal opportunities like her hearing peers.
She added: “Let’s get Tiggy’s voice heard. If you can donate it would mean the world to our family.”
