The former NatWest Bank building at 38/39 The Borough could be exchanging counters and cash for kitchens and couches if conversion plans go ahead.
A planning application has been submitted to create six homes on the site and use the old banking hall and basement as commercial space.
The building is Grade II listed and the bank, then called The London and County Bank, moved into number 38 in 1865. It bought number 39 in 1901 and converted the two premises into the present larger building in 1904, soon after merging with the London and Westminster to become The Westminster Bank.
Farnham town planners wanted to demolish it in 1947 for aesthetic reasons but it survived and merged with the National Provincial in 1970 to become National Westminster, or NatWest, but finally closed its doors in 2022.
