A filmmaker is dead excited as an award-winning flick shot in Farnham will premiere this weekend at the Hollywood movie where Star Wars and King Kong were first shown.
The Dead of Winter will premiere at the world-famous TCL Chinese Theatre this Sunday as part of the Screamfest Film Festival.
The short film is billed as a “classic Christmas ghost story for modern times” and is directed by Stephen Graves.
It follows the story of Harry who is haunted by a figure that may be a vengeful spirit, or his own guilty conscience, after leaving a rough sleeper to die in the cold on Christmas Eve. Cheerful stuff.
Viewers will recognise some of the backdrops with West Street businesses CE Hall optometrists and Blow Heads Barber Studio both featuring.
The film written by Graves and produced by Nicci Brighten stars Oliver Maltman as Harry, Christina Cole as Chloe and James Swanton as The Figure.
The aptly-named Graves said: “We’re over the moon to have The Dead of Winter’s US premiere at such a storied venue.
“The Chinese Theatre is part of Hollywood legend, and it’s played host to the premieres of everything from The Wizard of Oz to Star Wars. To screen there as part of Screamfest is a huge honour!”
Brighten said: “This is Superbright Pictures’ second film to be featured at Screamfest, and the third time we’ve showcased our work at the legendary Chinese Theatre.
"We’re absolutely thrilled to be back in LA, especially with The Dead of Winter having its US premiere at Screamfest. It’s an exciting milestone for our team!"
The Dead of Winter has previously screened at festivals including FrightFest, the BIFA-qualifying Brighton Rocks, and Norway’s Ravenheart International Film Festival, and won the Best Screenplay award at Hastings Rocks International Film Festival.
