A councillor has been thanked for giving a big break to a community centre in Farnham.

The covers came off on Wednesday (March 19) as a new pool table was unveiled at The Chantrys Community Centre.

The addition was the centrepiece of a minor revamp with the venue getting a deep clean and new lick of paint during a week-long spruce up.

There were cheers when the doors were finally re-opened with mayor of Farnham, councillor Brodie Mauluka, jamming with Liam Swan and Tom Benton during the grand reopening.

They also played a fitting rendition of the Chas and Dave classic ‘Snooker Loopy’ to get the crowd in the mood for some action on the blue baize.

Drinks and sandwiches were served before local teen, Frank Benton, helped the mayor to pull the cover off the pool table for the first time.

Andy Macleod, Surrey County Council member for Farnham Central, made the revamp possible with a £2,000 grant from his community fund.

And although he was sadly unable to attend the grand reopening, Sarah Benton and her friends at the Chantrys Community Association are grateful for his help.

“The kids here still haven’t seen the pool table with the covers off so we’re really excited for tonight,” she said ahead of the big unveiling.

“We’re also looking at getting a hard cover for the table, and we’ve got lots planned.”

Cllr Mauluka joked “where are the scissors” before pulling off the covers and taking the first shot, with James Hyman having the honour of potting the first ball.

The CCA has introduced a variety of daily activities with Wednesday pool sessions, jamming opportunities and a group for children with SEND issues all being launched.

People can also come in and chat every Tuesday from midday to 3.30pm.
