GRAYSHOTT celebrated St George’s Day in traditional style with an afternoon Tea Party in The Square, last Saturday.

Hundreds of villagers came along to enjoy a cream tea accompanied by jazz duo Mike Deighan and Richard White.

There was plenty to go around thanks to the many volunteers who had brought along fresh baked scones to together with the jam and cream donated by the local branch of Sainsbury’s.

Donations for the teas together with the proceeds of the raffle organised by Dick Smith raised £920 for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

The community event was organised by The Square Coffee Group led by Colin Thompson who thanked everyone involved.

Extra thanks went to Grayshott Parish Council for permission to use The Square while the Village Cafe donated tea bags, milk, sugar, water, napkins and did all the washing up.

Thanks also went to Cheryl and Pam for being ‘tea ladies’ while Vanessa did the table decorations and Warren Powell Richards printed flyers and posters.

Pins and Needles donatied material and space to make bunting while volunteer stitchers made the bunting.

The village’s Gurkha Durbar restaurant loaned a giant England flag and Party in Grayshott lent the marquees.

Volunteers also helped set up and take them down. Grayshott Market provided chairs and Grayshott Social Club and St Luke’s Church provided tables, tea urn, cups and saucers. Grayshott Village Hall came up with the tea pots and village website grayshott.com laid on the jazz duo.
