A tasty new tradition will begin at a church in Hale as free soup and pudding will be served up during a Twelfth Night Lunch at St Johns this Saturday lunchtime (January 4).
It’s actually being held two days before the official Twelfth Night, and there will sadly be no wassailing, while anyone who fancies it should email [email protected] to book a place beforehand.
A spokesperson said: “The twelfth night after Christmas is traditionally a topsy-turvy time where, in the past, tricks were played on neighbours and plays were performed.
“These days people still go wassailing in orchards which involves singing to scare off evil spirits and encourage good growth.”
There will be retiring collection in aid of the church tower.
