POLICE are appealing for information after a Mid Hants Railway train carriage used in the Harry Potter films was targeted by graffiti vandals.

The incident occurred some time overnight on Monday/Tuesday at Alton Station and Hampshire Constabulary has urged anyone who recognises the graffiti to come forward.

Woodies Mountford, of the Watercress Line, said staff discovered the damage on Tuesday morning. She confirmed that the dining car was one featured on the Hogwarts Express, right, in the Harry Potter films.

“It’s a bit sad,” she said. “They’re scrubbing it off as we speak.”

More than 690 people have shared the photograph on Facebook in a bid to track down those responsible.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said that investigations are taking place, but and no arrests have yet been made.

He also explained: it’s “not a legible word, it’s a graffiti tag” – in essence “someone signing their work”.

“Anyone who recognises that as a tag we would be keen to hear from,” he added.
